Impact of Borrelia burgdorferi infection and doxycycline treatment on macaque immune response and gut microbiome - 16S

Japanese macaques were infected with 10^4 spirochetes then were or were not treated with doxycycline after 4-6 weeks of infection. Treatment lasted for 3 weeks. We longitudinally collected feces and ran 16S rRNA sequencing to monitor the composition of the gut microbiome. Our three experimental groups (infected only, infected plus doxycycline, and doxycycline only) allow us to investigate how infection and subsequent treatment alters the gut microbiome.
