The national student survey Studiebarometeret is conducted by NOKUT on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Research, and was conducted for the ninth time in autumn 2021. The purpose is to strengthen the work on quality development in higher education and provide information about the students' perceived quality of education.
More than 30,000 students participated, which represents 41 percent of all students who received the survey. The examination includes study programmes at bachelor's and master's degree level that are offered in Norway and that last for at least three semesters. This includes ordinary bachelor's and master's degree programs as well as 4-, 5-and 6-year professional educations such as associate professor programs, civil engineering, medicine, veterinary and the like. In 2021, all universities and state colleges participated, with the exception of the military educational institutions. The vast majority of private colleges also participated.
The National Student Survey 2021 includes 40 institutions with a total of 1792 study programmes, divided into 880 bachelor programmes and 912 master programmes. All students in their 2nd year of study on bachelor's and master's degree programs who are registered as students in the fall semester are included in the survey. For longer professional programmes and five-year master's programmes, we ask students in the 2nd and 5th year of study. The survey does not include students who are on leave. In the autumn of 2021, this amounted to a population of approximately 73700 students.
Students could choose to answer the questionnaire in Norwegian bokmål, Norwegian nynorsk, English or Sami.
The NOKUT National Student Survey 2021 consists of four data files. This file contains all information on all variables (both subject groups, study programmes and institutions). The data file also contains person identifying information and is therefore only made available for persons or institutions that are included in a data processing agreement. To gain access to the data file, the processing of personal data must be reported to the Data Protection Officer or The Norwegian Data Protection Authority. For institutions that have an agreement with Sikt, the project must be reported to Sikt Data Protection Services.
