Site 48WA893 is located in the south-central section of the Bighorn Basin in northern
Wyoming. The site is situated within the grassland ecotone and was discovered in the borrow
pit of a dirt road. The site consists of a living surface containing four hearths, a fire-cracked
rock feature, and dispersed heat altered stones. Test excavations at the site revealed an
additional fire feature containing a distinct stain and a concentration of heat altered quartzite.
This newly discovered feature was sampled for pollen and macrofloral remains to provide
evidence for plant processing activities.
