Ramie is an economically important natural-fiber-producing crop that has been cultivated for thousands of years in China; however, the evolution of bast fiber remain largely unknown. It is known that the cultivated ramie is domesticated from the wild B. nivea var. tenacissima (tenacissima), according to the taxonomic, genetic and molecular evidences. Here we de novo a chromosome-level genome for wild tenacissima germplasm Qingyezhum (QYZM). The high-quality genome together with numerous wild alleles provide valuable resources for the biological and breeding studies in this bast fiber crop.
