Abstract The encephalic vascular accident (EVA) is one of the greatest causes of permanent sequels that generate functional disability. This study aims to evaluate daily life activities of elderly with EVA through the Functional Independence Measurement (FIM). So the 14 elderly people with EVA sequel of the Gerontologic Complex Sagrada Família of Goiânia were evaluated through the FIM. FIM is an instrument that assesses the functional and cognitive capacity concerning six dimensions: self-care, sphincters control, transfers, locomotion, communication and social cognition. The result for motor control was 43, cognitive control was 17, and total MIF was 60. The results show that 57.1% presented modified dependence - assistance up to 50%, 21.4% had modified dependence - assistance up to 25% and 21.4%, complete independence. It is possible to conclude that the majority of the elderly have significant dependence for daily life activities, as consequence of low functional performance. In that way, those elderly require follow-up and directed orientations to allow a greater independence.
