Appropriation of Social Media into News Production Processes in Selected Community Radio Stations in Gqeberha

Ethics number: 222155604/2024/10This dataset forms part of a research project titled <i>“Appropriation of Social Media into News Production Processes in Selected Community Radio Stations in Gqeberha.”</i> The dataset illustrates how community radio stations in Gqeberha incorporate social media into the processes of news gathering, production, and dissemination. It focuses on journalists, editors, producers, and two station managers from <b>Nkqubela FM</b> and <b>MADIBAZ Radio</b>.The dataset assists the study in understanding how social media is reconfiguring the relationship between journalists and their audiences. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with media practitioners at the selected stations. These interviews were triangulated with data gathered through virtual ethnography in order to gain deeper insight into how social media is integrated within the community media environment.Virtual ethnography was specifically employed to observe and analyse how journalists and audiences interact on social media platforms, thereby providing a richer understanding of the evolving dynamics between media practitioners and community audiences in the digital space.
