The project aims to characterize the whole genome of Metarhizium koreanum, a relatively unexplored species, and compare it with the well-studied Metarhizium anisopliae, a widely used entomopathogenic fungus in biological control. The study will focus on identifying and annotating virulence-related genes, secondary metabolite biosynthesis genes, and proteins that contribute to pathogenicity against common pests. By analyzing genomic and functional differences between Metarhizium koreanum and M. anisopliae, the project seeks to evaluate the potential of identified strain as a novel biocontrol agent. This research could provide insights into how Metarhizium koreanum may serve as an alternative to M. anisopliae in pest management strategies, offering unique advantages and broadening the scope of biological control solutions.
