We sequenced 18S rRNA genes and transcripts (cDNA) from several sediments depths down-core at IODP Site U1385A to attempt to discern preserved vs. active groups of eukaryotes. This research built upon previous studies looking at subseafloor eukaryotes across varied oceanic provinces through RNA, but concentrated on one site and went down-core across 1.2 million years of sedimentary history.
