Souriau A., Sorjonen J., Petrusek A., Petrusková T. (2025): Local song evolution after three decades in a complex songster, the Thrush Nightingale. Avian Research, 16: 100224. doi: 10.1016/j.avrs.2025.100224
Data are provided in Microsoft Excels (XLSX) format. If relevant, each file contains a sheet "legend" with description of all columns.
=====
recordings from 1986.ziprecordings from 2019.zip
10-minute long recordings of Thrush Nightingale (Luscinina luscinia) from Parikkala municipality, Finland, recorded in 1986 and 2019 [PCM format, 44.1 kHz, 16 bit, mono, provided as WAV files in two separate ZIP archives]. Details about the recordings are provided in "Recordings - basic info.xlsx". Complete recordings are accessible from collections of the Luomus Helsinki Museum, Finland.
=====
Songtype Catalogue.pdf
A catalogue displaying the song types identified in the thrush nightingale’s recordings from 1986 and 2019. Each plate exhibits several spectrograms corresponding to a type (and/or subtype), the labelled syllables composing it as well as the individual recording it was extracted from.
Syllable Catalogue.pd
A catalogue displaying the syllable types identified in the thrush nightingale’s recordings from 1986 and 2019. Each plate exhibits several spectrograms corresponding to a syllable type as a single occurrence, series or associated with linked syllables when relevant to the assignation, and other relevant information such as the syntactic use, as well as the individual recording it was extracted from.
=====
Recordings - basic info.xlsx
Basic informaiton about all recordings (males). The content matches Supplementary Table S1 in the study.
Recordings - song & syllable repertoires.xlsx
Matrices of presence/absence of song types and syllable for each recording (male), and numbers of songs assigned to each song type per male.
Repertoire sharing matrices.xlsx
Editable version of Fig. 5: Song type sharing and syllable sharing between each pair of individuals from both old recording (A=1986) and recent ones (R=2019). The number of song types shared between individuals and the resulting Jaccard similarity coefficient scores are shown above and below the diagonal, respectively. The gradient of colours highlights scores from low (red) to high (green) value.
Song details.xlsx
Information about individual songs in the recordings, including the duration, position in the recordings (start and end times), assigned song type, and cumulative count of sont and syllable types (if available) within the given recording. On a separate sheet, data underlying the syllable accumulation curve are provided (i.e., rank of a song when individual syllable types wereobserved in the recording).
