Summit, Greenland lock in zone methane and total air content data

Total air content and methane concentration in the lock in zone of an ice core collected at Summit, Greenland. These data were collected to study the processes that trap air in polar firm. The lock in zone is the region where air transport stops and bubbles close off to trap air. The total air content and methane concentration in the closed porosity of ice samples were measured using a standard melt/refreeze method at Oregon State University (see methods). This aspect of the project was designed to obtain a better understanding of when bubbles close off during the evolution of the firm layer.
