In number theory, a general hypothesis asserts that the multiplicative properties of an integer and its additive shift are independent, and many famous conjectures lie in this class. The problems on the largest prime factors of consecutive integers and their variants also stem from the above general hypothesis. In this survey, we briefly introduce the background and progress on this topic, as well as the methods to study them.
