This graph shows the week-by-week super PAC spending in the 2012 election from December 2011 up to November 2012. During the week preceding the Super Tuesday on March 6 - from February 27 to March 4 - super PACs spent about 11.2 million U.S. dollars.Super PACs are independent expenditure-only committees, which may raise unlimited sums of money from corporations, unions, associations and individuals, then spend unlimited sums to overtly advocate for or against political candidates. However, direct coordination and communication between political candidates and super PACs is prohibited. Each of the GOP candidates is supported by at least one super PAC.
