Acute toxicity of local anesthetics used for humans and many animals on larvae of marine crustacean, red-clawed crab Chiromantes haematocheir

We collected female red-clawed crabs Chiromantes haematocheir that laid eggs on the coast of Tsukumo Bay, Noto Peninsula, Japan, from August to September, 2024. Crabs with eggs were placed in a bucket of natural seawater in the evening and left overnight. The following morning, zoea larvae that had been released into the seawater were collected. These larvae were exposed to the EC50 concentrations of lidocaine and dibucaine, respectively, for 24 hours. After exposure, total RNA was extracted from the samples, and paired-end RNA libraries were prepared and sequenced using 150 bp read lengths.
