Research progress on PCR (plant cadmium resistant) genes in plants

The PCR (plant cadmium resistance) gene encodes a small transmembrane protein containing the PLAC8 motif, characterized by two transmembrane α-helical domains. This gene is associated with two distinct functions: regulating fruit size and weight, and conferring cadmium resistance and ion homeostasis to plants, playing a crucial role in heavy metal transport. We performed a clustering analysis of PLAC8 motif-associated genes in mosses, monocots, and dicots, identifying their specific sites. Through comprehensive analysis of gene structure, function, evolutionary history, and functional diversification, this study provides theoretical support for cadmium-resistant plant breeding, environmental remediation, and sustainable agricultural development, contributing to solutions for heavy metal pollution.
