We surveyed the diversity of bacteria at different sites of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of healthy adult jacks. In order to identify the microbial distribution within the GIT, the contents from the foregut (stomach, duodenum, jejunum, and ileum) and hindgut (cecum, ventral colon, dorsal colon, and rectum) of five Dezhou donkeys bred from the same farm and with the same parity (average age of 2 years ± 3 months, average bodyweight of 215 ± 10 kg) were collected for DNA extraction, high-throughput sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis.
