China (2008): HIV/AIDS TRaC Study Examining Condom Use among Female Sex Workers in Mengzi, Yunnan Province. Third Round.

PSI/China has provided programs for female sex workers (FSWs) including peer education, a drop-in-center, and other activities based on previous PSI surveys among FSWs in 2005 and 2006. In order to monitor the progress of the program and to improve it in the next few years, this survey among FSWs aims to: 1) identify and describe segments of FSWs in terms of consistent condom use with commercial partners and condom use with regular partners; 2) gain an understanding of opportunity, ability and motivational factors that are relavant to HIV risk behavior; 3) monitor key determinants of behaviour and logframe indicators over time; 4) measure change in key indicators and promoted behaviors in relation to exposure to PSI/China activities; and 5) use study data to improve an ongoing social marketing and behavior change communication campaign for HIV/AIDS risk reduction among FSWs.Cluster sampling of hotspots was used to collect data among 516 venue-based FSWs and 64 randomly selected street-based FSWs in Mengzi in December 2008. Because the number of street-based FSWs is very small, we use them as ‘booster’ sample combined with the venue-based FSW to run the segmentation analysis.
