Tritrichomonas foetus Transcriptome or Gene expression

In cattle, T. foetus affects the reproductive system causing abortion whereas infection of cats results in chronic large bowl diarrhoea. As of yet, infections by T. foetus in cattle is untreatable, and although treatment options for feline trichomonaiasis do exist, they are becoming increasingly ineffective due to evolving drug resistance. In the absence of a T. foetus genome, we sequenced the transcriptomes of the bovine and feline T. foetus genotypes as an economical large-scale gene discovery method and to identify host-specific adaptations and virulence factors specific to each genotype.
