TEACHING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN THE AGE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND DIGITAL MULTILINGUALISM

This article examines the transformation of English as a foreign language teaching under the influence of artificial intelligence and the growing phenomenon of digital multilingualism. It analyzes how adaptive learning systems, conversational agents, and automated translation tools reshape classroom practice and learner autonomy, while also considering how digital environments expose learners to several languages simultaneously, creating new pedagogical demands and new opportunities for intercultural understanding. Special attention is given to the balance between technological assistance and the preservation of genuine communicative competence, and the article concludes by outlining directions for future research grounded in applied linguistics and educational technology.
