Dataset of high resolution images of Intertidal MacrOalgae (IMO Dataset)

The IMO dataset compiles georeferenced UAV and in-situ RGB imagery of  44 different classes (with 33 intertidal macroalgae) from the NE Atlantic, facilitating the development of robust machine-learning models for classification and semantic segmentation of macroalgae. The data were collected between 2019 and 2023 in four rocky intertidal areas along the Galician coast (NW Spain), characterized by different wave exposure, and structure (i.e. identity and abundance of species) of macroalgal assemblages. Three sub-datasets are shared: photoquadrats (507 images), orthoimages (7954 manual polygons), and individual labels (7,685 images). With the imagery of the dataset, nine tables are shared that relate each sub-dataset by several identifiers. One of the tables compiles biomass information of three areas of study from two different years.
