Conservation management of small, isolated populations: The Norfolk Island Morepork as a case study

This thesis investigated conservation management relating to common anthropogenic threats. I used the Critically Endangered Norfolk Island Morepork as a case study to focus on management of genetic diversity, habitat restoration, invasive species, and population monitoring. I established the New Zealand Morepork would provide the most suitable source population for genetic rescue. I identify a habitat restoration strategy and an effective monitoring program to detect population trends. While investigating the diet breadth of the Norfolk Morepork, I highlight a management conundrum associated with the use of anticoagulant rodenticides. The outcomes provide a platform to guide effective management of Norfolk Moreporks.
