A comparative analysis of open science, access, APC, and circulation of knowledge. A dataset from a survey of researchers in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and South Africa.

The dataset includes the primary data from complete responses (N=13,577) to an online questionnaire conducted with four groups of scientific researchers in South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina from August 2023 to February 2024. The objective of the survey was to collect information about the position in each national scientific field, publishing practices, access to funding, opinions on Open Access and diamond journals, and practices and representations on Article Processing Charges (APC). The research team discussed and agreed on the survey structure in English, then translated it into Portuguese and Spanish. Additional adaptations were made to accommodate national particularities (e.g., the names of categories in each national evaluation system). Information that might identify the respondents has been removed from the dataset. The dataset also includes the original questionnaires used in every country.
