Clostridium sp. HCS.1 Genome sequencing

Steroid modifications in the gut microbiome have high potential for clinical relevance, yet much remains unknown about their underlying molecular mechanisms. Here, we describe a novel Clostridium strain, which possesses a previously uncharacterized promiscuous ketosteroid delta-4 reductase, as well as a novel delta-1 reductase capable of acting on synthetic corticosteroids.
