Gridded Snow Depth and Snow Water Equivalent for North America, 1979 to 1997

Daily analysed snow depth and estimated SWE, mean monthly snow depth and estimated SWE over North America on a 0.25 degree grid for the 1979-80 to 1996-97 snow seasons generated for use in the AMIP2 project as part of Diagnostic Sub-project 28, "Snow Cover in General Circulation Models". The methodology is described in Brown et al. (2003) and is based on the operational snow depth analysis scheme employed at the Canadian Meteorological Centre described in Brasnett (1999) (see CCIN Reference Number 10916). The analysis used extensive historical daily snow depth observations from Canada and the U.S.A.
