Potential of soils natural sorbents for environmental decontamination from Cs-137

The contamination of ecosystems by radioactive isotopes, particularly 137Cs, presents a significant environmental threat. This study aimed to identify the caesium ion absorption centres in the soils sampled from the Karkonosze National Park to gain insight into cesium retention mechanisms. Radiometric and mineralogical analyses of soils enable assessment of radiation exposure and reveal a role of clay minerals fraction to aid in the decontamination of Cs-137.
