Attitudes Toward Informatics in Romanian Middle School Education Dataset

This dataset contains survey responses collected from 241 middle school students (grades 5–8) enrolled in Romanian educational institutions during the 2025–2026 academic year. The data was gathered to investigate gender disparities in students' attitudes toward Informatics (Computer Science) education. The sample consists of 95 boys and 146 girls. The survey instrument, adapted from Scott et al. (2023), is grounded in Expectancy-Value Theory (EVT) and Self-Efficacy Theory (SET). The dataset includes Likert-scale responses covering the following dimensions: Experience with Computers: Engagement in hands-on activities such as programming, using tools, and dismantling devices. Perceptions of Computer Science: Interest in the field and perceived utility. Self-Perception: Self-efficacy, confidence in learning Informatics, and perceived competence. Social Support: Perceived encouragement and attitudes toward CS from family and peers. This data supports research into how early experiences and social factors influence the gender gap in STEM fields within the Romanian educational context.
