Series consists of bound volumes containing duplicates schedules of Deaths in the District of Melbourne.In 1932 Metropolitan Registrars of Births and Deaths ceased to operate and all registrations in the Melbourne Metropolitan area were effected directly by the Registry of Births, Deaths and marriages (Country registrations continued through local Registrars). Each schedule received by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages was registered with an annul single number according to date of receipt (Schedules received in 1932 were registered by annual single number with 'M' (Melbourne) prefix.Each schedule contains the following information:- Number.- When and where died.- Usual place of residence.- Name and surname.- Occupation.- Sex and age .- Cause of death.- Duration of last illness.- Legally qualified medical practitioner by whom certified.- When he last saw deceased.- Name and surname of father and mother (maiden name - if known) and occupation.- Signature, description and residence of informant.- Signature of Registrar, date and where registered.- When and where buried.- Undertaken by whom certified.- Name and religion of Minister, or names of witnesses of burial.- Where born, and how long in Australian states.- If deceased was married, where, at what age and to whom.- Conjugal condition at date of death.- Issue in order of birth, the names and ages.On the 1st of October 1960 the 'Reistration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Act 1959' came into operation, combining the registration of metropolitan and country deaths.
