The seawater sample of a hydrocarbon-adapted microbial consortium was collected using a electromotion aspiring pump from the seabed of an oil drilling platform located near at N38°26′31.7″, W118°24′45.2″. 20L seawater sample was filtered to hydrophilic polyethersulfone filter membrane (0.22μm pore size, 47 mm diameter, Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany), transported immediately to the laboratory at -40°C and stored at -70°C until DNA extraction was performed. Purified DNA was submitted to Illumina HiSeq 2500 for PE150 sequencing. DNA was extracted with MO BIO PowerSoil® DNA Isolation Kit (MO BIO Laboratories, Inc. Carlsbad, CA).
