The ECS, influenced by water masses and river runoff, appears as an interesting mixing zone to assess the spatial distribution of fungal communities and get insights into the role of hydrographic features on the dispersal of the ECS mycobiome. During autumn, the CWM mixes with the freshwater from the Yangtze River flowing southward (Zhao et al., 2013; Qiao et al., 2006), allowing us to explore the influence of the input of the Yangtze River on the ECS mycobiome. Therefore, 140 samples derived from water column and sediment were collected in autumn of 2015. Using a metabacording approach targeting the ITS2 region, aims were here (i) to understand how the hydrosphere of the ECS influences the mycobiome composition and (ii) to determine the environmental parameters shaping the planktonic and benthic mycobiome.
