资源简介:

This study explores the concept of the “hero” in the novels of Kazuo Ishiguro, focusing on how traditional heroic paradigms are redefined through memory, identity, moral ambiguity, and emotional restraint. Unlike conventional literary heroes characterized by courage, agency, and triumph, Ishiguro’s protagonists—such as Stevens in The Remains of the Day, Kathy H. in Never Let Me Go, and Ryder in The Unconsoled—embody a quiet, introspective, and often flawed form of heroism. This paper argues that Ishiguro constructs his heroes through internal conflict rather than external action, emphasizing psychological depth over physical achievement. The analysis highlights how narrative unreliability, suppressed emotions, and retrospective self-reflection shape these characters. Ishiguro’s heroes are often trapped within rigid social systems or personal illusions, which they gradually confront or fail to overcome. This tension between awareness and denial becomes central to their development. Furthermore, the study examines how cultural contexts, particularly post-war British identity and Japanese ethical traditions, influence the formation of Ishiguro’s protagonists.
