Study-level data charting and classifications for biomaterial-based corneal substitutes: a scoping review (2014–2026)

This dataset supports a scoping review of primary clinical publications on biomaterial-based corneal substitutes as structural or functional alternatives to human donor corneal tissue. It contains study-level extraction data from 47 clinical publications identified through the main search completed on 10 October 2026. The dataset includes bibliographic information, clinical characteristics, technology families, indications, anatomical approaches, extracted outcomes, five documented groups of overlapping patient cohorts, and selected discrepancies from primary reports. The unit of analysis is the publication rather than the individual patient. Fourteen reports could not be retrieved during the main selection process and were not assessed for full-text eligibility. The dataset does not provide pooled efficacy or safety estimates. Clinical extraction narratives are retained in Spanish, while classification variables and documentation are provided in English.
