Mancos Black-on-white, bowl, Accession AZRU-00001 Catalog #993. Morris FS 5067. CULTURALLY SENSITIVE: NAGPRA ARTIFACT; ACCESS RESTRICTED. Analyzed by Lori Reed 2011. Temper is granular igneous rock suggesting manufacture at Aztec Ruins. Bowl is 98% complete. Measurements: 22.7 cm diameter, 10.1 cm height. Image AZRU1-993 A: view showing interior painted design. Earl Morris’ description of the southeast refuse mount at the time of excavation is as follows. “….[Having] a depth of about 7 feet and composed of sweepings, ashes, animal bones, and sherds.. but generally lacking in architectural debris. There were occasional rock-walled firepits. Sherds in the mound were all of the earlier Chaco complex …burials are extremely rare in all of the refuse heaps.” (Morris 1928:414).
