The present invention discloses a novel nano photocatalyst for degradation of Congo red dye. The said nano photocatalyst is a nanocomposite of Poly Styrene (PS) co-doped with Graphitic Carbon Nitride (g-C3N4), Silver (Ag), Silver Iodide (AgI) and Tungsten Trioxide. It is represented by the formula "PS g-C3N4/Ag/AgI/WO3". The present photocatalyst provides twin advantage viz., only minute quantity (0.16 percent) of the said nanocomposite is required to degrade 98.5% Congo red dye in just 90 minutes. Secondly, this only require sunlight as light source to catalyze the degradation. The better efficiency and better stability of the said photocatalyst has been achieved by selecting the appropriate ingredients and standardizing process parameters such that the resultant photocatalyst is not only efficient but the process is economical and environment friendly. Also it can be manufactured on a large scale in industries involved in the synthesis of dye degrading compounds/pollution control industries.
