Spice Usage in European Farmhouse Brewing

This dataset lists spices used in European farmhouse brewing, based on 1,074 accounts collectedfrom archives in 8 different countries, as well as published sources and fieldwork. The data span the last three centuries, with emphasis on the period 1930-2025. A distinction is made between spices which are said to be in common use (Restrictive), and spices which are just mentioned as used (Inclusive). The data are used in the paper "Spice in European Farmhouse Brewing", in publication for Ethnobotany and Economic Botany.
