This proposal concerns the continuation of the AM BAG. As a reminder, we propose establishing a community-driven mode of access, to study metal additive manufacturing (AM) with X-rays. The BAG will utilize AM rigs, multi-MHz X-ray imaging (XR), and sequential in-situ tomography (XCT) to provide insights into AM laser processing. Three AM rigs are available in the BAG: (i) operando XR of Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), (ii) in-situ XCT of LPBF, and (iii) operando XR of direct energy deposition (DED). Implementing in-situ and operando AM devices will transform this BAG into an efficient tool, boosting AM technology development and serving as a home-community at ESRF for emergent developments that we aim to grow. Unravelling the mechanisms of multi-scale and multitemporal events in AM processes across material systems will provide data for validating models, AM technologies, additional sensing systems, inspiring material developments, studying materials' printability, recyclability, etc.
