White teak (Gmelina arborea Rob), is a species of commercial importance due to multiple industrial uses of its wood. Also is a species with natural tolerance to drought. Lignification is related to processes of wood formation and responses to stress. In order to gain knowledge on molecular mechanisms involved in biosynthesis and regulation of lignification pathways in white teak, a de novo sequencing (RNAseq) approach was used. RNA from secondary cell wall synthesizing cells was sequenced using Illumina® technology; reads were assembled in a transcriptome representative of secondary xylem tissue.
