VPRS 14584 File Cards, Northern Division, Closer and Soldier Settlement Acts

The cards in this series appear designed to summarise and evaluate a settler (or lessees) situation from 1932. It may be that this was used to assist in relation to the determination of a settlers liabilities and the adjustment to the instalments to be paid under the arrangements of Section 30 of the Closer Settlement Act 1932.A single card was devoted to each settlers property with green-blue cards being used for Closer Settlement leases, red cards for Discharged Soldier Settlement leases and beige cards for Auctions. Extra markings are on the cards to denote Workmen's Homes Allotments or settlers granted Unemployment Relief.Details were given of the numbers of the advances file and the land file, the name and address of the lessee and the date of the lease. The location of the block (parish and location of Inspector), allotment and section and area are given with an evaluation of the suitability of the block and of any securities held. Within a table with spaces allocated for the years to 1937 an evaluation could be made of the settler of the settlers physical fitness and a notation of the amount of the adjusted instalment and of advances. A final section on the card allowed for a brief report on the suitability of the block, the uses made of it and the abilities of the settler and the extent of indebtedness.
