CLINICAL AND PATHOGENETIC FEATURES OF COMMUNITY-ACQUIRED PNEUMONIA IN CHILDREN ON THE BACKGROUND OF ATOPIC DERMATITIS

This article analyzes the clinical, immunological, and pathogenetic characteristics of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in children with underlying atopic dermatitis (AD). Particular attention is given to the immune dysregulation observed in children with AD, including the predominance of T-helper type 2 (Th2)-mediated immune responses, alterations in cytokine secretion, and impairment of the skin barrier function, all of which contribute to an increased susceptibility to respiratory infections, including community-acquired pneumonia. The paper reviews the clinical manifestations of CAP, laboratory and instrumental diagnostic findings, disease severity, and the impact of atopic dermatitis on the development of complications based on current scientific evidence and contemporary clinical guidelines. Furthermore, the importance of early diagnosis, improved differential diagnostic approaches, comprehensive treatment strategies, and individualized patient management in enhancing clinical outcomes is discussed. The findings of this study may contribute to improving diagnostic algorithms and therapeutic approaches for community-acquired pneumonia in children with atopic dermatitis, thereby reducing disease-related complications and improving the quality of pediatric healthcare.
