VPRS 994 Works Records, Government House

This series is a collection of volumes containing records created between 1874 and 1876 by the Public Works Department (VA 669) to record details relating to the construction of Government House. It is apparent that the work was undertaken by contractors, but the Department had a responsibility to determine the contract details and to have oversight of the progress of the work. These records are those created and kept by the Quantity Surveyor and the Supervising Inspector of Works.These records were probably not all kept as a distinct series, but were assembled later into the current collection.Details of the contracts let for the construction, equipping and fitting of the Government House may be found in VPRS 979 Contract Books, VPRS 981 Register of Contracts Accepted and Gazetted and in VPRS 967 Inward Correspondence Files.
