Satellite Infrared (IR) images show the temperature of the underlying surface or cloud. IR images are derived from radiation emitted from the Earth and its atmosphere at thermal-infrared wavelengths (10-12 micrometres). A colour scheme has been applied to create a "view from space" representation. The IR image is sourced from the Japan Meteorological Agency's geostationary satellite, MTSAT-1R
