VPRS 14482 Copies of Leases, Section 142 Land Act 1901 and Section 125 Land Act 1915

This series consists of volumes into which have been pasted copies of leases issued under Section 142, Land Act 1901 which subsequently became Section 125 of the Land Act 1915.From 1862, each successive Land Act made provision for the leasing of Crown Land for industrial purposes such as quarrying and factories and specific types of processing plants such as tanneries or saw mills and other purposes such as rural inns and stores, warehouses and dwellings or the provision of landing places and quays. Leases were to be for no more than three acres and to run for a term of between three and twenty-one years. All applications for leases for longer than seven years had to be published in the Government Gazette for four issues. Leases, including those within municipal boundaries, could be renewed for further terms by the Governor in Council.
