Replica Hopewell Ceramic Vessel (Catalog # 2002:226.232), a part of the Michigan State University Museum's Archaeology Teaching Collection. Created by Toby Morrow, this pot is made out of clay and shell temper that has been fired. It is decorated with trailed and stamped designs, which were common on Hopewell pots during the Middle Woodland period of the Eastern Woodlands (U.S.A.). In the past, ceramic pots were used for a number of tasks, including cooking, soaking materials, storage, serving food, ceremonial practices, and others.
