This study used genetic mapping methods to investigate the basis of resistance of maize lines to herbivory by the two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae). The methods used involve pool-seq (bulk sequencing) of sensitive and resistant collections of maize plants from segregating crosses, along with parental strains. The data generated was produced with the Illumina method (paired end sequencing of libraries prepared from pools of individuals with contrasting genotypes, and resistant parents). Genetic differences between pools were used to identify genomic regions associated with resistance.
