Bacterial diversity was assessed through 16S rDNA sequencing (Illumina MiSeq) of a range of 10 soils distributed into 3 groups (low anthropised controls, slag heaps, and settling ponds) representing a gradient of anthropisation. These taxonomic diversity data were compared to functional metabolic diversity assessed through Biolog and Microresp assays.
