Revealing the extraordinary morphology in extraterrestrial granular avalanche deposits

This repository contains the dataset used in our study on granular avalanches in extraterrestrial environments. The data were generated from three-dimensional Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations of granular column collapse that incorporate van der Waals interparticle forces under varying gravitational conditions. In our research, we developed a framework to link microscale particle interactions with macroscale deposit morphologies observed on planetary bodies. The dataset includes simulation outputs characterizing flow dynamics, runout distances, intact block preservation, and regime transitions (diffusive, block, stable). This repository provides the simulation results and analysis data used in the figures, enabling reproduction of the study’s findings and further exploration of granular flow behavior in reduced-gravity planetary environments.
