eReefs_CapeYork_2024.1 Voyage dataset: Water quality and habitat mapping to support local partnerships and assess cyclone impacts in southeast Cape York

Archive of oceanographic and survey data collected during the eReefs_CapeYork_2024.1 Voyage. This voyage focused on a variety of coastal habitats (rivers, estuaries, mangroves, seagrass, reefs) in Far North Queensland following extreme flooding in the region due to the impact of Cyclone Jasper (December 2023). A primary goal of the voyage was evaluation of advanced observation platforms and tools to assess cyclone impacts. Data types include biogeochemical, hydrodynamic and survey/mapping data collected via a range of experimental approaches. \n\nDetailed information on voyage activities and data are provided in the enclosed Voyage Report.\n\nThis voyage also served as an opportunity to strengthen local partnerships, and this archive contains relevant datasets and outcomes from these collaborative efforts. Enclosed outputs include mangrove orthoimagery, subtidal seagrass surveys and a Seagrass Monitoring Plan that was jointly developed by Cape York Water Partnership, Juunjuwarra Rangers and CSIRO.\n\nLineage: Survey and mapping activities were conducting using a variety of platforms and methods, including aerial mapping (drones), remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), drop cameras, and acoustic/bathymetric (3D sonar) surveys from tender vessels. Sampling activities included a suite of hydrodynamic and biogeochemical observations collected via benthic landers, vessel-mounted sensors, water column profiling, and sediment coring. Voyage activities also incorporated satellite imagery, both as a tool to inform field sampling and as an opportunity to 'ground truth' discernible features in remote sensing products.\n\nData collection methods and preliminary results are described in the enclosed Voyage Report, which also details relevant background information, objectives and partnerships that formed the basis of the research voyage.\n
