Hospital Sink Drain Biofilm study before and after disinfection

Biofilms in hospital sink drains contribute to the spread of antibiotic resistant pathogens, playing a role in hospital-acquired infections. Disinfectants effective against biofilms have been approved for use in healthcare settings, however their impact on the resulting biofilm communities in drains is not well studied. Here, we applied shotgun metagenomic sequencing to 123 samples to study how an EPA-certified biofilm disinfectant affects 12 hospital sink drains.
