The goal of the study is to determine if Shiga toxin encoding bacteriophages from E. coli O157 could have a role in the variation of viruence observed amongst different countries. This is achieved by sequencing Shiga toxin encoding bacteriophages from animal and clinical isolates of E. coli O157 and undertaking comparative genomic analysis with published Shiga toxin-encoding phages.
