资源简介:
This collection comprises image, text, spreadsheet and CAD data from an Archaeological Evaluation At Thoby Priory, Mountnessing, Essex. The work was undertaken by Archaeology South-East in November 2014. The archaeological evaluation was conducted on land at Thoby Priory, Mountnessing, Essex, in order to discover whether any remains of the medieval priory, including the cloister, survive to the north of the known site of the priory church. Thoby Priory was founded between 1141 and 1151. The standing remains of the priory date to the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Currently the site is in use as a scrap yard and associated light industries. Two trenches were excavated in an area of open ground within the current scrap yard. Both revealed foundations of the mansion but, aside from some worked stone reused in a later context and part of a hearth of medieval date, no remains from the priory were found.
