Since the end of the nineteenth century when Sergei Winogradsky introduced the concept of chemolithotrophy when he first reported on organisms gaining energy exclusively from the oxidation of inorganic compounds, the members of the bacterial family Beggiatoaceae have gained much attention due to their ability to oxidize sulfide to elemental sulfur, which they deposit intracellularly in the form of small globules or droplets. However, due to the difficulties of isolation, purification and growth of this bacterium in vivo, only a few drafts of its genomes have been assembled.In this report, we announced the availability of a complete closed genome (or WGS) sequence of the strain that has been previously described based on morphological and biochemical characteristics.
