Free-living and particle-associated bacterial and microeukaryotic communities of Lake Baikal were studied at different near-shore and pelagic sites. The under-ice and summer plankton communities were sampled near Bolshiye Koty settlement (South basin) and at the area of the runoff of the Selenga River (Middle basin). These two sites are characterized by low and high suspended solids content, respectively.
